In 2009/05/16 has occurred in Ottawa(Canada) BSDCan - The BSD Conference.

This FUG article reports a bsdtalk blog post, that disposes talkings with FreeBSD developers in BSDCan 2009. The speakers are: Brooks Davis, Hiroki Sato, Philip Paeps and George V. Neville-Nell.

All of them talked about FreeBSD 7.2 and what news we can hope for FreeBSD 8.0.

When I had idea to develop sites on mod_python I was thinking about which database better would perform tasks at beginning. SQLite simplicity seems to be a good option for consider it as alternative.

Searching its history on the Web I could find this article at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQLite. And more, I could find an interesting project based on PHP language, that aims to build an interface handling for SQLite. It is called phpSQLiteAdmin. Click here to access it.

My tests with 0.2 version of this incipent interface were successful. It can be retrieved here. Before I had problems with version 0.3-Alpha1 on my FreeBSD server.

According to this FUG post, published in 2009/05/16, Markin Wilke is carrying out inside FreeBSD Project efforts started by Sun Microsystems developers on VirtualBox port for FreeBSD.

He invites all interested for tests on actual implementation. VirtualBox port can be retrieved at http://people.freebsd.org/~miwi/vbox/vboxport.tgz

Instructions consist of: a) get vboxport.tgz at address specified above; b) unpack it on /usr/ports/emulators/; c) perform “make install”. Wiki page for port project is http://wiki.freebsd.org/VirtualBox

Before to publish results of my mod_python laboratories, today I wish I could write about power disputes at work. What can I observe concerns about technical knowledgment and its consequences to good relationship between individuals at company.

In many situations we can see the following behaviour: fear of fell yourself less important in a work carried out for example, mainly if tasks do not run as expected.

Well, what can I conclude of it? I think that when in fact there is a project, a well-defined and specified target to follow in a company, there must be trust as a team, however difficult it is conciliate the differences in points of view.

Finally, individuals have their expertises for some activities and will need help in other. Never there will be anyone detaining all knowledge, principally when we make part of heterogeneous environments, where a perfect scenario can be exemplified for careers related in technology. New issues always will appear.

When I have some free time after work and academic obligations, frequently I search for tasks related to programming and development. At first glance maybe it seems a strange behaviour, mainly when in my work I handle with support.

But putting the differences apart, I have tried to build some sites with mod_python and Apache. The main difficulty for me consists in oriented-object characteristic of language, because almost my experiences with programming languages ground on C.

I hope to post results of successful experiences that I will try on next days.

Before finish, I would like to mention that I am having some difficulties to find related material on the Web. If there is some book or tutorial that you consider interesting for community, please report it below on session of comments.

In article of 2008/11/27 I have talked about distributed computing technology, very useful for science advance. In that case I wrote handling with SETI@home.

Today at O Globo, newspaper of Rio de Janeiro, I have just read a news under the title “Study of genome accelerated by software“, published in 2009/05/08. It concerns PUC Department of Computer Science and Fiocruz(Biological Research Centre located in Rio de Janeiro), in a project supervised by Prof. Sérgio Lifschitz.

Part of World Community Grid Project, from IBM, that aims to share processing of idle machines for scientific research, and currently reaching more than one million equipments on the world, the project of genome comparison has originated a database with more than 3,5 million entries to protein sequences ( for approximately 3,800 organisms). These data can be used to making new drugs, for example.

Under normal conditions, a potent computer would take more than 3,000 years to complete the same task.

Neste caso específico tratei do projeto SETI@home.
